Space Center Houston Parking & Directions

How to get to Space Center Houston from downtown, the address on NASA Parkway, parking cost, and a no-drive shuttle option.

Updated July 2026

Space Center Houston is easy to reach but it’s not downtown — it’s out near the Johnson Space Center in the Clear Lake area, southeast of the city. Here’s exactly where it is, how long it takes, and what parking costs.

The address

Space Center Houston, 1601 E NASA Parkway, Houston, TX 77058. NASA Parkway is also known historically as NASA Road 1. Put the name or address into your maps app rather than “NASA” alone, which can send you to the wrong gate of the Johnson Space Center campus.

Getting there from downtown Houston

The center is roughly 25 miles southeast of downtown Houston, a 30–45 minute drive depending on traffic. The usual route is I-45 South toward Galveston, then exit onto NASA Parkway (NASA Road 1) and head east about six miles. From Hobby Airport it’s around 20–25 minutes; from Galveston, about 35–40 minutes north.

Houston traffic is real, especially at rush hour — if you’re driving in from downtown on a weekday morning, leave a buffer so you still arrive near opening (that early arrival is what secures your free NASA tram pass).

Parking

On-site parking is $10 per vehicle. It is not included in admission — the ticket covers exhibits and the tram, but parking is a separate fee paid on arrival. Members park free. There’s ample surface parking; on the busiest holidays it fills, which is one more reason to come early.

No car? Take a shuttle instead

If you’re staying downtown without a car, or you’d simply rather not drive and pay to park, a Space Center Houston ticket with round-trip transport bundles admission with an air-conditioned shuttle from a central meeting point, plus a few hours of free time to explore. It’s the simplest option for travelers relying on rideshares — a one-way Uber/Lyft out to Clear Lake and back can cost more than the shuttle, and getting a return ride from the center isn’t always quick.

Once you arrive

Head straight through the main entrance to Guest Services for your tram boarding pass before doing anything else — see our NASA tram tour tips for why timing matters. Then start with the indoor galleries while you wait for your tram window.
