Space Center Houston Hours and the Best Time to Go
Space Center Houston hours for October and November 2026, holiday closures, the last tram time, how long to stay and the quietest time to visit.
Space Center Houston opens at 10 a.m. On weekdays in October and November 2026 it closes at 5 p.m., and on most weekends it stays open until 6 p.m. It is closed on Thanksgiving and on Christmas Day. The last tram tour leaves two hours before closing, so on a weekday the trams stop at 3 p.m. These are the hours on the official calendar, checked October 2026, and the center changes them for events and weather without notice, so look at your date again the week you go.

The best time to go is opening time. Timed passes for two of the three free tram tours are handed out at Guest Services on a first-come basis, and the first hour decides how much of the day you get.
The ticket above is Space Center Houston’s own timed-entry admission, $30 per adult on GetYourGuide this month, rated 4.5 from 3,919 reviews (checked October 2026). Pick the 10 a.m. window if your plans allow it.
What time to arrive
Be in the car park before 10 a.m. Then go straight to Guest Services for timed passes to the Astronaut Training Facility and the NASA Campus Tour, and spend the wait in the galleries. The Rocket Park tram needs no pass, only the queue, so it is the one to leave for later in the day. Mission Control is different again: it is a paid add-on you book online with your ticket, ideally two weeks ahead, and its time is fixed when you book. Tell Guest Services your Mission Control time and they will give you tram slots that do not clash.
The quietest days
Weekdays are calmer than weekends, but they are not empty: schools book field trips on weekday mornings, so the galleries can be busy before lunch while the trams are not. The crowded stretches are the Texas spring break in March, the summer holidays, and the weeks around Christmas and New Year, plus the long holiday weekends when the center runs special events. On a hot or stormy day, remember that the trams are open-air and can stop without notice.
How long to stay
Space Center Houston plans its own visits in three sizes: two hours for a quick look, four hours for a half day that includes the Rocket Park tram, and seven hours or more for everything (official itineraries, checked October 2026). The full day is realistic only if you arrive at opening on a weekday, because the last tram leaves at 3 p.m.
A quick map of the day
The center is one large building, an outdoor plaza, and the trams.
- Inside the main building: the Starship Gallery, with Mercury, Gemini and Apollo hardware and a Moon rock you can touch; Mission Mars; the International Space Station gallery; and the Artemis exhibit.
- Outside: Independence Plaza, where a shuttle replica sits on top of NASA 905, the Boeing 747 that once carried the real shuttles. You can walk through both.
- Beyond the gate, by tram: Rocket Park and its Saturn V, the Astronaut Training Facility, and Historic Mission Control.
The tram tips guide explains how each tram works and which one to do first.
Getting there before opening
The address is 1601 E NASA Parkway, Houston, TX 77058, about 25 miles southeast of downtown. Allow 30 to 45 minutes from downtown outside rush hour, and more at 9 a.m. on a weekday. Parking is $10 per vehicle (checked October 2026). The parking and directions guide has the route, and the NASA Houston tour comparison covers the shuttles from downtown if you would rather not drive. Coming from a cruise?
